TMS: A Revolutionary Approach to Healing
TMS is an innovative safe approach that shows great promise for helping people heal their mental health problems.
TMS is a noninvasive treatment that uses magnets to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. This treatment effectively treats a wide range of mental health problems, including Depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. TMS is a safe and effective treatment that has been proven to help people suffering from mental health issues.
If you are struggling with a mental health problem, TMS may be the proper treatment.
According to Dr.Adam P. Stern of Harvard University, “Approximately 50% to 60% of people with Depression who have tried and failed to benefit from medications experience a clinically meaningful response with TMS. About one-third of these individuals experience a full remission, meaning that their symptoms go away completely.” It’s important to note the “high recurrence rate” associated with mood disorders. Still, according to Dr.Stern, “most TMS patients feel better for many months after treatments stops, with the average length of response being a little more than a year. Some will opt to come back for subsequent rounds of treatment.”
TMS doesn’t come with the typical side effects of traditional anti-depressants and it’s more effective at treatment, too!
A study published by The National Institute Of Mental Health found that 13% percent succeed when taking medication as usual; TMS has shown to be almost 5 times as effective, with over a 50% success rate. TMS works by using magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain that are associated with mood. This stimulation can improve symptoms of Depression. TMS is a noninvasive procedure that is well tolerated by patients. It is done in an outpatient setting and does not require anesthesia.
How It Works
After a thorough health screening, TMS may be your best course of action. Therapy sessions are typically five days a week and can last for several weeks. Sessions can last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.
- Once you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by a kind soul, and then the necessary medical equipment will be primed for use. The noninvasive nature of TMS allows the patient to sit comfortably while a medical professional carefully positions the TMS device.
- After the device is “locked into” place, the machine then pinpoints the specific parts of the brain responsible for Depression. Although TMS is relatively pain-free, you may feel a mild tapping.
- Typically the machine cycles through periods of “on and off use.” The machine works for 4-5 seconds and then is off for 25-30 seconds. This cycle occurs for the entirety of the session.
The inconvenient nature of TMS can be off-putting for some but, a 2020 study in the medical journal of Brain stimulated found, “interruptions in the TMS sessions, including gaps of up to 14 days, had no meaningful impact on final depression outcomes. Although we champion a consistent treatment schedule, we understand that the trials of tribulations of life can force your attention. We’ll happily work with you to get right back on course when difficulties arise. We know that not every person who struggles with Depression responds well to medication. We want you on your journey towards recovery. TMS has shown great promise for treating people like yourself without responding positively to traditional treatments.
